Right after I finished my Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship degree, I got my first job as a Financial Planning Assistant at a firm based in Australia. My managers were impressed by my performance and work ethic in general that they entrusted me with more significant roles. Later on, I won the “Superhero of the Month” award. I was then offered a promotion.
But even with all these successes in my career, my burning passion as a marketer and an entrepreneur keeps haunting me. The flame became so big that I couldn’t sleep some nights from thinking of it. I knew I had to do something. So I took the risk. I quit my flourishing job with a promotion on the table to study Social Media Marketing on my own even with a business degree. I always lived by the saying, “Learning doesn’t stop within four walls.” Having all these, I know I still got a lot to learn.
What I love about marketing is it pushes you to keep getting better, and ultimately to be a better person as you cannot be a good marketer without empathizing with others. Out of all marketing campaigns, I’m more drawn to the social media aspect of it. I have been an avid social media user for as long as I can remember. I have also seen the growth of every platform so the cultures of each aren’t new to me.
As I go on in this journey, I’ve seen the industry’s nature of being fast-paced and unpredictable. One would think I’d be discouraged but I’ve grown to appreciate it more and would love to take the challenge.
Having the qualities of a strong work ethic, a burning passion, action-taker, a hunger for knowledge and self-improvement, empathy, proficiency in social media, and problem-solver, I know these are a good start in becoming a social media manager that genuinely helps businesses to achieve their goals.
